Family Involvement

Family Involvement Policy

Charlotte Park Elementary School encourages a strong home-school partnership that ensures a safe, caring, challenging, and inspiring environment where all students, parents, and school staff members work and learn together. As active partners we plan, design, implement, and evaluate the educational program here at Charlotte Park regularly.

To achieve these goals, we propose the following:

  • We will conduct a parent meeting to explain the Charlotte Park School Improvement Plan, the Parent Involvement Policy, Parent-School Compact and Parent Handbook at the beginning of the school year.
  • School staff will regularly and openly communicate important school information. Information regarding the school's performance will also be included. Teachers will communicate directly with parents using REMIND. Monthly newsletter will also be sent home for each grade level.
  • Charlotte Park will hold family meetings throughout the year. These meetings will feature information about the general school community, news about the School Improvement Plan, academics, and school level results on the yearly TCAP.
  • Teachers will conduct Parent-Teacher conferences in the Fall to discuss and interpret individual student progress. Progress Reports and Report Cards will be sent home every grading period. Other assessment results will be shared throughout the year.
  • Each year we will evaluate the effectiveness of the Family Engagement Policy and School Compact.
  • We stress the value of parent input and participation, by encouraging parents to bring suggestions or concerns to their child's teacher or to the principal for discussion.
  • We will ALL work together as a school community (Administration, Faculty, Staff and Parents) to provide quality education for all students at Charlotte Park.
  • We will implement effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance while mitigating barriers, such as language. Parent involvement opportunities include, but are not limited to:
    • Supporting academic learning at home by setting aside time for students to work on homework. Ask your child, "How was your day?" "What did you learn?"
  • Volunteering for special events or joining the PTO.
  • Supporting character development by talking with your child about their behavior at school. We expect students to have a Positive Attitude, Act Responsibly, Work Hard, and Show Respect every day (P.A.W.S.)
  • Remaining in contact with your child's teacher.

Family-School Compact

The Parent-School Compact is an agreement that has been developed jointly with parents, community stakeholders, and school faculty and students to provide a learning environment in which all children can develop to their academic potential. The signed compact will be kept on file at the school.

As a Charlotte Park Parent/Guardian, I will

  • Bring my child to school every day. Attendance is important! Communicate and attend parent conferences with my child's teacher. Read every night with my child or have my child read to me.
  • Help with homework and make sure it's completed on time. Support the school-wide behavior system, P.A.W.S.
  • Communicate with school staff when needed and attend school events if possible. Communicate with my child about his/her school activities and lessons every day. Keep address, phone number or health issues updated with the office.
  • Partner with my child's teacher to ensure my child's academic, social and emotional growth.

As a Charlotte Park Student, I will

  • Follow P.A.W.S (Positive Attitude, Act Responsibly, Work Hard, Show Respect). Be a good citizen and support the common good.
  • Discuss my learning with my parents/guardian. Be present and prepared for all classes.
  • Do my best in my class.
  • Complete my classwork and homework on time. Take pride in my school.
  • Read independently every night

As a Charlotte Park Faculty Member, I will

  • Strive to meet the different academic and social/emotional needs of each student. Come to school prepared to teach.

  • Provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction to all students.

  • Teach students about being a responsible citizen and supporting the common good of the community.
  • Provide homework to reinforce the skills that have been taught at school. Follow the policies set forth by Metro Nashville Public Schools.
  • Communicate with parents about opportunities for volunteering and family involvement.
  • Work together with ALL stakeholders to support the growth of every child.
  • Offer parent-teacher conferences throughout the year to discuss student growth and achievement.
