Family Involvement

Family Involvement Policy

Charlotte Park Elementary School encourages a strong home-school partnership that ensures a safe, caring, challenging, and inspiring environment where all students, parents, and school staff members work and learn together. As active partners we plan, design, implement, and evaluate the educational program here at Charlotte Park regularly.

To achieve these goals, we propose the following:

  • We will conduct a parent meeting to explain the Charlotte Park School Improvement Plan, the Parent Involvement Policy, Parent-School Compact and Parent Handbook at the beginning of the school year.
  • School staff will regularly and openly communicate important school information. Information regarding the school's performance will also be included. Teachers will communicate directly with parents using REMIND. Monthly newsletter will also be sent home for each grade level.
  • Charlotte Park will hold family meetings throughout the year. These meetings will feature information about the general school community, news about the School Improvement Plan, academics, and school level results on the yearly TCAP.
  • Teachers will conduct Parent-Teacher conferences in the Fall to discuss and interpret individual student progress. Progress Reports and Report Cards will be sent home every grading period. Other assessment results will be shared throughout the year.
  • Each year we will evaluate the effectiveness of the Family Engagement Policy and School Compact.
  • We stress the value of parent input and participation, by encouraging parents to bring suggestions or concerns to their child's teacher or to the principal for discussion.
  • We will ALL work together as a school community (Administration, Faculty, Staff and Parents) to provide quality education for all students at Charlotte Park.
  • We will implement effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance while mitigating barriers, such as language. Parent involvement opportunities include, but are not limited to:
    • Supporting academic learning at home by setting aside time for students to work on homework. Ask your child, "How was your day?" "What did you learn?"
  • Volunteering for special events or joining the PTO.
  • Supporting character development by talking with your child about their behavior at school. We expect students to have a Positive Attitude, Act Responsibly, Work Hard, and Show Respect every day (P.A.W.S.)
  • Remaining in contact with your child's teacher.
